321 Ocean Drive
Miami Beach, FL
Completed 2015, Size: 6,000 sf2
A couple relocating from New York City to Miami Beach purchased the rights to two apartments in an oceanfront building that was just beginning construction. As proposed by the developer the two apartments would total 6,000 square feet and occupy an entire floor. The task was to ignore the proposed layout of the two apartments and redesign the entire floor to address the needs of the couple – a writer and the CEO of an international media group – and their children. Rather than the sort of spaces that are typical of apartments that are second homes – primarily used for vacations – the couple wanted the apartment to look and feel like a full-time residence, not unlike a Manhattan pre-war apartment. A spectacular foyer and gallery, lined with murals by Frederico Herrero, lead to the principal social spaces of the apartment; both the living room and dining room face the ocean. The master bedroom and guest suite are nearby but out of sight. Corridors lined with the couple’s extensive art collection lead to the children’s rooms and the more informal family quarters. In addition to the architecture, services included all the interior finishes and furniture selection.
