115 East 70th Street
New York, NY
Completed 2008, Size: 15,000 ft2
A landmarked Neo-French mansion dating from 1921, located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The project involved a comprehensive gut renovation and transformation from eight individual apartments into a single-family residence. The design carefully preserved and refurbished the existing landmarked street-facing façade, while introducing a reimagined rear façade characterized by an open, glazed architectural expression.
The interiors are thoughtfully crafted to showcase the client’s extensive collection of 20th-century art and design. Traditional materials such as plaster, stone, and wood-paneled walls are seamlessly integrated with expansive glass elements on the rear façade, creating a refined interplay between classical elegance and modern minimalism.
The residence’s classical layout and original proportions accommodate generous public rooms, a master suite floor, children’s bedrooms, and staff quarters, culminating in a studio level and rooftop terrace.
